Baggage, The Dark Side, & Sunday Funday!

My day began with such an inspiring message at church. I have mentioned in previous posts that this is an area in my life where I feel I desperately need to dedicate more time, and I'm so happy I started the day off the right way... The message today focused on a series about Toxic Baggage. We all have some right?? Specifically the message dealt with the baggage of bitterness. Now I know it's kind of cliche' to say that "I felt like the message was directed right at me" (because I personally feel that everything happens for a reason and God will find any way possible to get you to HEAR HIM especially when you are open to the message at church) but today spoke to me in so many ways... Bitterness is a poision that when carried with us for extended periods of time, it will seap into all aspects of our lives: our relationships with family & friends, our work, our passions, etc. I left today with a better understanding about what forgiveness really is and what it is not... I feel inspired and at peace knowing that bitterness is not baggage I want to carry with me throughout the rest of my journey.

At a special part during the service a video played someone's personal message. I was shocked to recognize this person as a client at our salon & also a well-known photographer in the area. She bravely shared her story of being sexually abused by her father at a very young age, and it took her until she was about to have her first child to let that bitterness go... as I looked at the mom & daughter sitting next to me they were both sobbing... I was overcome with emotion as I thanked God that I was blessed to have a strong & supportive family, but also that this brave woman shared her story. Hopefully her message will grant some peace and healing to other families that have maybe dealt with similar situations.... the story was followed by a beautiful song performed by a woman in the worship band... this is the chorus...

Down the long road to forgiveness
There is fear at every turn
And she knows she needs to go the distance
Where her heart can finally rest,
Break these chains of bitterness
God will heal her brokeness
Down the long road to forgiveness
(Long Road To Forgiveness by Melissa Greene)

I know that no matter how big or small the problem with anger, resentment, or regret... it is not something I want to carry with me.... and I know I don't have to do it alone :)

After church my hubby was so sweet to get me my favorite fall drink:

Grande Nonfat Chai Tea Latte

Now I'm not a daily Starbucks girl, but I really do enjoy it...especially on a chilly day like today... it hit the spot!

We are spending the rest of our sunday making chili & cookies... of course my husband is watching football... while I flip between reading (i'm on #7 of 8 of my current series) and homework... I'm sure we will head to the gym during a break between football games... THEN I'm especially looking forward to our first fire of the season in our fireplace :) I LOVE SUNDAYS!
