How could it be Memorial Day weekend around our area without a weekend full of strange weather?! This Memorial Day weekend started off with awesome weather, but rain & storms were looming in the forecast! Let me just say for the unofficial kick off of summer, as well as BOATING SEASON, a weekend full of predicted rain is not what we were hoping for, BUT we had a great long weekend nonetheless.
Friday we had a low key evening {after Gia’s 2 month doctor appointment which included several shots!} and had a few friends over to BBQ. Nothing says summer time like grilling, drinks outside, and an evening spent with family & friends. {AND Dan was officially asked to be a Groomsman in Tim & Lyndsey’s wedding in November! I’m so excited we are both in the wedding! Seriously.. rock star wedding party… I.CANNOT.WAIT!!!}
Saturday was overcast and rainy during the beginning part of the day. We relaxed at home all morning and early afternoon and then we went to a BBQ at the “Twins’ House”… no matter how old we get I think we will always calls it that! We had a lot of fun introducing Gia to our friends who had not met her yet! Another fun night of drinks, food, & friends… are we seeing a pattern here?! haha
Sunday started off to be a beautiful day! We ran some errands early and stopped by to see Princess Eliana for her 1st birthday party!
Then we got home and started getting everything ready for an afternoon of boating… Most importantly Gia’s first boat ride!
Gia didn’t care for her life jacket too much, but really who does?! As she grows into it hopefully it will be better, and I hope she loves being out on the boat just as much as her mommy & daddy!
We ordered pizzas from the Beacon after boating and relaxed at home for the rest of Sunday night!
Monday I was so excited to be able to sleep in with Daniel since he had the day off work! My mom made us a delicious breakfast of our favorites, and then it was time to decide if we were going to put the boat in the water with rain on the radar. We decided to hold off on launching the boat and just head over to my family BBQ of course dressed in our red, white, and blue!
We enjoyed our traditional Memorial Day menu of BBQ pork steaks and other family favorites! Mom and I played bocce ball while Gia was napping with her Great Grandma Donna. THEN the storm came, just as Dan got done helping my cousin Mike pull the kids tubing in Mike’s boat. They decided to hurry and get Mike’s boat out of the water as it started and wow to say they got caught in the storm was an understatement. The famous line from caddy shack “I don’t think the hard stuff is going to come down for quite some time” was used over and over!
The rain didn’t look like it was going to stop anytime soon, and poor Dan was SOAKED & cold so we packed up and headed home for a relaxing afternoon of comfy clothes & movies.
Happy Memorial Day 2013!
