If I had to list off the top of my head what my hobbies are I’m sad to say I’m not sure I could tell you. I often joke that my husband has more hobbies than what should be humanly possible, but he does, and even though sometimes it can be a little frustrating because at times {cough cough, hunting season!} there isn’t enough of him to go around, I really love and admire that about him.
I think it is so important, especially as I start this new chapter in my life of being a mommy, that I make time for myself to do the things I love. I need to keep my identity and I know that will only make me a better wife, mommy, daughter, sister, friend, etc.
I too often find myself as the person always curious about others… their interests, habits, hobbies, food choices. Not that its necessarily a bad thing, but I think deep down I’m always comparing myself to others thinking that everyone else must have it all figured out and I should learn from them. I am so indecisive sometimes, but deep down I know I have an opinion. Not that I will throw a temper tantrum over where to choose to eat {I honestly really never care haha!}, but I need to voice my opinion and figure out what I truly love to do for myself and for my family. So where does that begin for me? I thought I would just write a random list {in no particular order} of things I love and hopefully in that process I can discover really what my hobbies are or maybe areas I should make more time for.
So here we go, my love list…
- being a wife: being Dan’s wife is so important to me and I am so blessed because of our marriage. I love taking care of him and showing him in ways big and small how much I appreciate him.
- being a mommy: because of Gia my love for Dan has grown to new levels I never new possible. add that to the love I have for this sweet baby girl and I swear my heart might burst. Being Gia’s mom has made me look at life and other people in a whole new way. I love each day with her and take my responsibility to her very seriously. I hope I make her proud.
- my family: I absolutely love being close to our families. Being able to do family dinners and see my mom so often is such a blessing. I love any chance I get to spend time with them.
- Life at the Lake: our neighborhood and being by the water {even a 500 acre lake} makes me so so happy. I love the community and get together as well as being able to take walks by the water. The fact that we can go boating in our backyard is a dream come true.
- Being a hairstylist: am I the most talented hair stylist? no way. Do I try my best and truly care about my clients? Absolutely. I know God put me in this position for a reason and I love being able to make a difference in people’s lives and how they feel about themselves.
- Chats with my girlfriends: As I have grown up I have learned the difference between acquaintances and friends. Good friends are few and far between and I am so lucky to have a core group of girls that I know have my back and I have theirs. Whether we see each other often or not often enough we pick right up where we left off, and I value any talks or texts with them I can get!
- My Daily Quiet Time: I have always considered myself to be a pretty strong Christian. Now my faith has gone through ups and downs, but I know where I stand with the Big Guy, and I definitely want to be on His side. I have had times in my life that I have been really faithful about taking time to grow my faith, but most recently I have started consistently taking time to spend with God doing daily devotionals. I am going through the book Jesus Calling and it is exactly what I need. I am very proud of my growing relationship with God and I hope I can be an example to others.
- Reading: I truly enjoy getting lost in a book. I try to alternate between a book I can learn from and then switch to a fluffy read. haha
- Writing: Hello blog. I am far from a fabulous writer, but I love being able to have a way to record memories. I also love to write my prayers and if I need to let go of something. Its very cleansing for me.
- Health/Fitness: I love learning about it, talking about it, being in awesome shape {like I was a few years ago} and that it why it’s time for me to follow through. It’s so important for me to set an example for Gia. Dan sets a great example by making the gym a priority. I pray for our health every day and I need to start following through on my end of the deal. I really enjoy running and being in the gym with Dan and our friends, just have to get back into that lifestyle.
- Iced Coffee: dunkin donuts, mcdonalds, keurig at home, or my favorite…
- Starbucks: Iced Venti Skinny Vanilla Latte, yes please! Something about that drink with a green straw makes me so happy.
- Music/Playing the Piano
- Organizing: Nerd Alert but I seriously love the satisfaction of reorganizing a drawer, cleaning out a closet, or filling out a calendar or planner. And lists, I love lists.
- Target: why I love this store so much I have no idea, but every trip there makes me happy.
- Getting My Nails done/Pedicures: One of my guilty pleasures for sure. Very thankful my husband loves it when my nails are done too because it’s definitely not a necessity but I really appreciate it. I just feel better when my nails are always looking good.
- Trying new restaurants, especially outdoor venues in the summer, and if there is live music… best day ever!
- Makeup: Not only is it important for my job that I make an effort to be on the beauty “A Game”, but I really love it. I love any chance to browse Sephora or Ulta. I recently bought drawers to organize all my makeup and couldn’t be more excited.
I’m sure there’s more so I will probably just add to this list as I think of things, but so far I’m pretty impressed with myself. Some of these things are silly, and not in the stereotypical hobbies category, but it’s me and what makes me happy. To be continued…
