My baby sister came home this weekend from college and brought home her boyfriend and another good friend of hers. I remember the weekends when I came home from college and there is one thing I looked forward to most... FOOD! Sometimes sleep was a close second, but nothing beats the food from HOME :) I was really looking forward to our family dinner saturday night, and of course Miss KB got to choose... her pick?? Diamond Mineral Springs!

An old family favorite that serves the meal family style, with everyone's individual choice of a "meat". The menu is on the wall, and there is just something so comforting and familiar about this place. I remember the first time we took Dan there, it was so special to my family... and I know he would admit now that it has become one of his favorite places as well. As we all sit and enjoy a meal together, sharing stories and just soaking up every second of spending time together, we make ourselves miserable because the food is just SOOOO good!!! :)

I know I have discussed my relationship with food to at times be disfunctional, (but do not worry, I think I'm getting a handle on it!) sharing meals with my family is so important to me. I remember sitting around the table as a little kid, enjoying my mom's delicious cooking, and talking about everyone's day... It was so important to check in and reconnect with everyone to remain a close family. As my siblings and I got older and our evening activities turned into friends, sports, or jobs, those family dinners grew few and far between. I definitely realize now how much I appreciate the time I do get to spend with my family, and love making family dinners a high priority. Now I'm not perfect and have to admit that sometimes Dan and I enjoy our meals in front of the TV, but most nights (now that I'm cooking hehe), I enjoy setting the table, and sitting down with my hubby to enjoy our dinner together. I notice such a difference in a positive when we make time to sit down, reconnect, and enjoy each other, instead of rushing through it as life passes us by...
Another great example of a family dinner was the get together we had for my special grandparents on sunday... My grandparents celebrated 56 years of marriage on Saturday, and I am so glad we were able to get together and celebrate with them. It was not a fancy affair, we all just got together to eat and enjoy each other.

{Their names are Gene & Donna! funny misspelling hehe, we laughed so hard over this}
My Grandma brought their wedding album, and a memory video we had made for them on their 40th Anniversary. Luckily my uncle had a VHS player waiting so we could all watch it together. It was extra special for me to have Dan see that and have my Grandma narrate to him to tell him who everyone was in the pictures... Some pictures were funny, some made me cry... especially when I saw my Grandma crying over friends who have since passed away, and seeing my mom tear up through different phases of our lives

I am so thankful for my family, and having a weekend like this really put things into perspective and showed me in so many ways how blessed & lucky I am :)
