I honestly cannot believe it took me so long to read this book... I've been talking about reading it for way over a year, but I just never got around to it... but once I started I could not put it down.
I finished the book in 2 days while D and I took a mini-vacay a couple weekends ago. I had heard news that a movie was in the works, so of course I had to see what this was all about before the story hit the big screen.
The time period is 1960's, pre-integration, and is told from the perspective of a few different women. My eyes were really opened to see how poorly people were treated during that time. It makes me sad to think that many prejudices among different races were formed because of that time, which in all reality is not that long ago. I have a lot of respect for the author of this book {the book is fiction, but it hits home for her} to write something so bold on a very sensitive issue. I can't wait to see the movie!
Currently I am reading: Water for Elephants
